Review: Born in Brothel

This documentary was something that I've always wanted to watch since I knew about it. But was having exams at that point of time, soon i've totally clean forgotton about it. It was recently when hui, my childhood friend brought it up again. That I FINALLY went to check it out. It was totally WORTH all the trouble. :)

It's about this female photographer who went to Calcutta's red light district. She wanted to shoot photos of the prostitutes there, she eventually got closer to the kids there. Most were bron in brothels, generations after generations who were all prostitutes. T.T She wanted the children to have a skill and hence taught them photography using 2nd hand, pass-me-down cameras. Looking at the world from a different point of view. Some of the kids had the most amazing pictures you even seen. Avijit is my fav! He's paints really well and have gotton prizes for it. Had an eye, knack for beautiful things. He took many wonderful pictures. He was even selected by an International Organisation to represent India in an International camp for kids, where they are exposed to many different kinds of photographs, picking up new skills at the same time. Avijit initially had difficulties going overseas to Europe as the india government wouldnt want to grant him a passport due to his background. It was after much trouble by the female photographer that he finally got his passport. Avijit was later even given a scholarship to study in the states. (Ithink its states la.. don't remember. haha) He's going to pursue either medicine or photography in uni soon!

Go check it OUT!

loves,
FJJ
